Are you looking for a Diabetes Alert Dog?

We here at t1dogs believe in giving back to the community and helping fellow Type 1 Diabetics better manage their condition with the assistance of a highly trained Diabetes Alert Dog. Our focus is to find ideal candidates of dogs that otherwise would have limited options of a happy and healthy home. Most of our dogs in training came from less than ideal situations and are eager to start their life as your companion!

Depending on the type of dog, it costs anywhere between $10,000 - $30,000 to have each dog medically healthy and properly trained for each type 1 diabetic. Each one of our dogs placed is up to date on all vaccines, spayed/neutered, microchipped, and has been dewormed and defleaed as well as current on heartworm/flea/tick preventative. If you are interested in paying it forward for a diabetic to better be able to afford one of our dogs please consider a small donation. Every little bit helps a diabetic have a better quality of life with a Diabetes Alert Dog at their side!

Tucker

Available for Adoption

Age: 1 year

Training Status: Career Change

Type: Pet

Say hi to Tucker! This Border Collie/Great Pyrenees's cross came from a working farm in the gold country and is smart as a whip. Although this guy is sensitive and a fast learner, the stress of full access service dog training was a bit more than he wanted to handle on a daily basis. So, this guy is available for adoption as a pet ONLY to just the right home. Although Tucker is outgoing with those he knows, he's shy and demure with those he does not so this guy will need a family who is willing to give Tucker time to come out of his shell and accept him for who he really is. Tucker is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, potty trained, crate trained and does well on a leash. He is great with other dogs (albeit he is shy when meeting for the first time) but once he finds a friend he loves to tussle, chase and play games with his new friends.

Please Contact Us to apply for Tucker or to learn if you are a good match for this beautiful boy.

Dodger

Age: 2-3 years

Training Status: In Training

Type: In-Home Companion

Meet Dodger and read all about how he came into the T1dogs family here. This guy is the real deal: handsome, sensitive, and willing to work. His main priority is to be by your side and to take care of you. We think this guy will be one excellent alerter once his training is complete!

Pippin

Adopted

Age: 1 year

Training Status: Career Change

Type: Pet

Pippin, along with her sister, Aspen, came to us from a home in Richmond where they were being given away as young puppies. Pippin has shown a great interest in training and happily wags her tail for every adventure. Pippin has displayed some mild barking in public at other dogs, but that doesn't mean she doesn't like to work! She is has started scent training and will make a great In-Home Companion as she's a fan of people, especially kids, and is a sharp girl when it comes to training!

Kirby

Adopted

Gilligan

Gilligan was the sweetest guy around! His focus was to be with his humans and alert to their out of range blood sugars. Even though his life was short Gillly made the best out of every single day and started it off with a huge smile. Due to health complications sweet Gilligan is no longer with us, but, his inspiration continues to propel us into the future of finding new candidates that are as dedicated to alert work as he was. Crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Copper

Placed

Age: Approx 2 years

Training Status: Complete

Type: Full Access/Starter Dog

Copper is a young, adventurous and smart pup who was found wandering the streets of Richmond. After attempts were exhausted of finding his original owner he started training to be a Diabetes Alert Dog. Copper has the softest red fur which helped him earn his name. This guy is spunky and responsive in all the right ways! His favorite activities are making new friends on his outings and eating delicious snacks.

Copper has completed his training and now works for his very own boy! Copper and his family live in Virginia and continue to enjoy each other's company every day.

Aspen

Adopted

Age: 1 year

Training Status: Career Changed

Type: Pet

Aspen is a confident and loyal gal! She is young so she is still figuring out this big world of ours. She is up to date on vaccinations and has a good foundation of early socialization, leash work with a harness potty training and crate training. She does well with other dogs, and children but has not been introduced yet to cats. She is very food motivated and eager to learn new things. Her new family will need to be invested in training her to be a valuable member of society.

This little lady has been adopted by a wonderful couple in Southern California! She's now living the high life as a cherished member of a new family.

Bruno

Adopted

Age: Approx. 1 year

Training Status: Career Change

Type: Pet

Bruno joins us from the central valley where he was found as a stray wandering around a school. Bruno is a sensitive, even keeled dude, who's all about food and cuddles. He's just starting out his training, so we'll be working on introducing him to the big wide world as he matures. We have high hopes for this guy - if you see us out and about be sure to stop and say hello!

Jaxon

Age: 1 year

Training Status: Career Change

Type: Pet

This handsome, leggy lab boy joins us from a family in the Bay who needed to move and weren't able to accommodate Kirby's needs anymore. He's a spunky and extremely loving guy who's all about you and what you need. Kirby's favorite things are hanging out at home with you and playing in the backyard with you (and a tennis ball!) so this guy is in training to be just the right In-Home Companion for someone who likes outings out and about occasionally but doesn't require a full access service dog. He has started scent training and has a real zest for learning especially if it involves snacks! We're excited for this guy to finish training and be a real asset to his new person.

Dusty

Age: 1 year

Training Status: In Training

Type: Demo Dog

Meet Dusty! This Cocker Spaniel Mix was surrendered to the shelter because his family had too many dogs. We instantly fell in love with this unique guy! Dusty is currently in training to be a Demo (Demonstration) Dog for us, which means once fully trained he will accompany us to presentations and educational workshops that we provide in order to help teach others about service dogs. This guy loves everyone and is always ready for an adventure. Keep a lookout for us as we train!

Age: approx. 16 weeks

Training Status: Evaluation/Socialization

Type: Full Access of In-Home Companion

This handsome, spunky little guy joins us from Animal Compassion Team located in Fresno, CA. We have high hopes for this guy - he is engaging, active, bright, treat motivated and endearing. But best of all, he loves to learn how to work! So far we are slowly introducing him to the big wide world and getting him comfortable in various situations. We can't wait to see how he matures and grows!

Poozik

Age: 2 years

Training Status: In Training

Type: Demo Dog

Poozik, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, came to us from another family who, after having a baby, were having a harder time keeping this active guy exercised and well stimulated. We connected and the rest is history. Poozik is in training to be a Demo (Demonstration) Dog for us so he can accompany us out and about educating the public about what Diabetic Alert Service dogs can do. We are having so much fun getting to know this guy - he's spicy, engaging, eager to learn, and LOVES being active! What more could we ask for in one of our dogs?

Because Poozik (which means "tummy" in Russian) is still a bit new to us, it will be a bit before he makes his big debut into the service dog world. Until then, we are building on his already nice manners, and teaching him how to alert.
